Wardell Armstrong and McAuliffe Golf Day Raises £13,000 for the NSPCC
What a day, and what a result!
The 12th annual NSPCC Golf Day took place last Friday 6th July at Edgbaston Golf Club in Birmingham. 80 golfers from 20 different companies, including their guests, plotted their way around the course. Afterwards, at dinner, the golfers and their guests enjoyed some excellent hospitality and of course a few drinks.

Christine Blackmore and FAME Project Win Prestigious IOM3 Awards
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) presents a range of Awards, Medals and Prizes to recognise individual, corporate or group achievement. The most important IOM3 Awards are their Premier Awards, presented annually at a Black Tie dinner at the London HQ. This year the awards ceremony was held on Tuesday 3rd July.
Christine Blackmore (Stoke) has maintained her and the Firm’s profile by being awarded the most prestigious medal that the IOM3 is able to award – the Futers Gold Medal. Christine is also the Chairperson for the IOM3 Mineral Technology Board and was responsible for setting up he very successful UK Mining Conference last year in London. The award is for outstanding services to the international minerals industry. The citation read:

The 28th edition of MIPIM will be held in Cannes, France from the 13th – 16th March 2018.

New Water Abstraction Licensing Authorisation in England and Wales
Having been in the public domain since 2003, the alterations to the existing water abstraction licensing authorisations still came as a surprise to many when, on 31 October 2017, the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Welsh Government (WG) published their response to the consultation on altering these authorisations.
As of 1 January 2018, a number of currently exempt abstractions for irrigation (other than spray irrigation), quarry dewatering, abstractions located in geographically exempt areas and abstractions operated by public bodies and statutory undertakers will be required to commence the process of applying for the relevant licences to permit these abstractions.

Wardell Armstrong Receive NEBOSH Course Provider Accreditation
Wardell Armstrong LLP are pleased to announce that we have received course provider accreditation from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) to deliver both the National General Certificate (NGC) and National Construction Certificate (NCC) qualifications.
The courses are delivered from our modern training facilities at Sir Henry Doulton House, Forge Lane, Stoke-on-Trent. In addition to training a number of our own staff from across the UK business, this is an exciting opportunity and a natural progression for our multi-disciplinary consultancy to forge professional training and education links with our expanding portfolio of diverse mining, engineering and construction clients’.

The Second Tallest Building in Britain, One Lansdowne Road – Planning Approval
At Wardell Armstrong we are delighted that our client, Guildhouse Rosepride has secured approval from Croydon’s planning committee for their iconic One Lansdowne Road development.
The planning committee voted unanimously to approve the ambitious scheme which, peaking at 236 metres, will be taller than Canary Wharf and is only eclipsed by The Shard, which is 95 floors and 310 metres high. The approval, which consists of two towers, one of 68 storeys and one of 41 storeys, linked by an 11-storey podium structure, will become the second tallest building in Britain.
International Women in Engineering Day – Jennifer Smedley, Graduate Engineering Geologist
Jennifer Smedley graduated with a Masters in Engineering Geology from the University of Leeds last year and joined Wardell Armstrong soon after as a Graduate Engineering Geologist. Working from our Greater Manchester office in Leigh, Jennifer works within Wardell Armstrong’s Ground Engineering Team. For International Women in Engineering Day 2017, she gives a brief overview on what her first few months in the industry has involved.
