Wardell Armstrong Highly Commended at the 2018 Keynetix Users Awards

Wardell Armstrong have been ‘Highly Commended’ in the Data Visualisation category at this year’s Keynetix User Conference Awards that took place in Oxford on Monday 15th October.

This year’s conference theme was “Geotechnical data without boundaries” and focused on ways that users of digital engineering are continually improving the way that they collect data and how they find new ways to visualise, utilise and present this data.

The project, “Review of Shallow Mining Risks”, involved using historical site investigation data captured in HOLEBASE SI to generate a 3D model in Maptek Vulcan. This model quickly and clearly demonstrated to the client our understanding of the underlying geology, the worked coal seams and how this all interacted with the proposed foundations. This was then used to inform design decisions and scope further ground investigation, with the model being continually updated as more information became available and the remediation progressed.

One of the many positive points highlighted in this project by the awarding body, was the innovative and effective use of industry standard HOLEBASE software, used in conjunction with Vulcan, a piece of software more commonly used in the mining sector. This clearly showcased the strength of Wardell Armstrong in its ability to approach challenges while drawing on the strength of multidisciplinary teams.
