Unanimous Planning Approval for Corby’s Employment Regeneration Plan
A 20-hectare site in Corby, Northamptonshire once used for steelworks and a tip for toxic substances, has gained planning approval for the development of an employment park. Wardell Armstrong led the planning application acting on behalf of the Applicant, Storefield Group Limited, and provided multi-disciplinary environmental planning services.
Our team prepared the planning application which was successful after a unanimous approval by the North Northants Council’s Planning Committee last month. We also carried out an environmental statement that was supported by a number of our inhouse technical teams. These included:
This employment regeneration plan is set within the Rockingham Enterprise Area along the northern edge of Corby. After being derelict for over 13 years, this approval is a step in the right direction to make a positive change for Corby’s employment opportunities and see the regeneration of the land. The plan is to recontour the site by raising levels and backfilling parts of uneven ground, and construct business units and carparking spaces. Landscaping elements and ecological enhancement will be included in the development. The earthworks will take five years to complete with subsequent construction for a further 18 months.
Thanks to this approval, the community will have an opportunity for small businesses and start-ups to thrive in the new business units while increasing employment opportunities during the construction process and for decades after in the regenerated employment park.
“The development will deliver a package of benefits including significant job creation, restoration of a former contaminated site, net ecological benefits and a financial contribution towards creating cycleways and footpath improvements.” said Alison Mitchell, Technical Director. “We are very proud of the Wardell Armstrong teams involved in making this planning approval a success.”
