Structural Engineering Acquisition Boosts Wardell Armstrong Expansion

Multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy Wardell Armstrong has acquired the business and assets of RJ Witt Associates, a Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy practice based in Croydon, south London.

The move is part of the consultancy’s continuing programme to develop more work in and around London and the south east and jointly strengthens the services that can be offered to clients.

Established in 1984, RJ Witt Associates (RJWA) has worked on over two and a half thousand projects across new build and refurbishment, car parks, commercial, retail, health and fitness, listed buildings, hotels, education and residential. RJWA’s most recent instruction is on a £20m residential development in Croydon.

“RJWA is well known in the Croydon and London area and beyond for its innovative, safe, elegant and cost-effective designs,” said Keith Mitchell, Wardell Armstrong’s UK managing director.

“The practice has a strong client base, excellent skill sets and trusted relationships with architects and clients. We’ve known and worked with Rob Witt and his team for a number of years, so we’re delighted to have this opportunity to build further with them on such solid foundations.”

Structural engineering skills

Wardell Armstrong expects to be able to use the structural engineering skills of the Croydon team to expand its business and client base in London and the south east, to service some existing clients from a more convenient Croydon base, and to provide a broader range of additional complementary services such as civil engineering, environmental planning, ecology and archaeology to current clients of RJWA.

Rob Witt, the founder of RJWA said “At RJWA we are really excited about the acquisition. This is an ideal opportunity for RJWA to invest in technology and to combine with Wardell Armstrong in order to increase the offer we can make to our existing clients and to expand our portfolio of clients and projects moving into the future. It also gives us the opportunity to combine resource in a way that will be beneficial to our clients.”

The new company will become known as Wardell Armstrong (RJWA) Ltd and Rob Witt will become a regional director for Wardell Armstrong, continuing to operate from the Croydon office. Rob is a highly experienced structural engineer and project manager with a background in working for medium-sized and large consultancies before setting up his own practice.

The acquisition of RJWA increases Wardell Armstrong’s network of UK offices to a total of twelve.
