
Simon Celebrates 40 Years at Wardell Armstrong
Simon Hake joined Wardell Armstrong on 29 September 1980 as an Engineering Geologist and has since witnessed and assisted the Firm expand from 28 to over 450 employees.
Over his 40-year career at Wardell Armstrong he has progressed from a Graduate to Board Director and was Regional Director of our Birmingham office for a period until 2015. Today, Simon is Director with overall responsibility for both our Ground & Environmental Engineering and Civil & Structural Engineering teams and is based in our Head Office in Stoke-on-Trent.
Simon has enjoyed and continues to enjoy a varied career, working on a wide range of challenging and high-profile projects mainly in the UK but also in Brazil. Over his career he has been involved in carrying out detailed engineering geological and geotechnical appraisals, soil and rock slope stability, numerous settlement related issues, quarrying matters, large scale earthworks and backfilling operations together with a variety of ground improvement and remedial techniques. In this regard he has appeared and/or acted as expert witness in High Court, Official Referees Court, Public Inquiries, Lands Tribunal, Arbitration, Adjudication, Mediation and Enquiry In Public proceedings.
Simon reflects on his time at Wardell Armstrong: “I have been fortunate to have worked with some great people and on some fantastic projects over the years. I feel very lucky to have enjoyed my work and to have had the support from friends, colleagues and of course my wife, Hilary, and my children and now grandchildren. The journey through my career has and continues to be wonderful! Thank you to everyone I have worked with over the years.”
Managing Director, Keith Mitchell recently presented Simon with a long service award and thanked him for 40 dedicated years of service.
