The disposal of residual waste streams often ends up in landfills. As one of the UK’s leading Engineering Consultants, with over 30 years of landfill engineering experience, we are well placed to undertake designs, management and construction of new containment, Construction Quality Assurance (CQA), leachate treatment, site restoration and landfill gas extraction and utilisation infrastructure projects.

Our dedicated Landfill Engineering Team routinely undertakes the design, tendering, supervision, contract management and validation of all aspects of landfill development at sites across the UK, working as part of large frameworks of or single site operators. The wider expertise within Wardell Armstrong can provide supplementary support services: planning, Environmental Permitting, ecology and landscape to allow you to successfully develop your site.

Delivering a large-scale construction project requires an awareness of cost, risk and programme. Effective project management allows key issues to be identified, quality and costs to be controlled and the programme to be managed to aid with the successful completion of a project on time and on budget. Our team of NEC Accredited project managers are committed to providing a service that is in accordance with the site requirements and the Conditions of Contract. We are well experienced in overseeing and administering large value construction (including landfill) contracts.

Supervision of site construction requires a dedicated, punctual, organised and enthusiastic Engineer who will communicate effectively with the Client and the Contractors on site.

We pride ourselves in providing a team of in-house accredited NEC Supervisors and CQA Supervisors, who prepare comprehensive site records and provide in-put into the construction works with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Our Engineers are all educated to degree level and above within a relevant subject and are experienced in administering NEC Contracts within the landfill industry. They are proactive in developing appropriate working relationships with contractor’s and client’s site staff (including operations staff).

Wardell Armstrong have been involved and is experienced in hazardous, inert and non-hazardous landfill design over the past 25 years.  Designing landfill sites necessitates consideration of a range of technical issues and requires a diverse range of skills (including geotechnics, containment, hydrogeology, hydrology, landscaping and civil engineering) and we can confirm that we have these skills, are familiar with the complexities of design and are well versed in the procedures and protocols for developing site designs and in gaining necessary approvals from (and in negotiating with) the Regulator.
