Vision House Student Housing
Wardell Armstrong Planning secured planning permission for a 232-bed student housing scheme in Newcastle-under-Lyme. We carried out extensive pre-application engagement with the Local Planning Authority and local residents; advising on design matters; preparing a comprehensive planning application; and co-ordinating a supporting environmental appraisal drawing upon the company’s expertise in cultural heritage, ecology, noise and townscape and visual impact.
The proposed student housing scheme was refused against officer recommendation last year on the grounds of adverse impacts on the character and appearance of the Newcastle Town Centre Conservation Area and the setting of nearby Listed Buildings. Concerns associated with parking provision were also raised.
The Planning Team successfully overturned this decision at appeal through the preparation of a detailed written representation. The approval will allow a site that has stood vacant for almost 15 years to be revitalised, introducing a contemporary architectural design into an important town centre location.
