International Finance Corporation Capacity Building Workshops

Wardell Armstrong were invited to support the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) to deliver capacity building workshops in both Jordan and Turkey. The workshops aimed to provide businesses and banks a practitioner’s interpretation of the IFCs Sustainability Framework, including the application of IFC’s Performance Standards (IFC PS), designed to define IFC clients’ responsibilities for managing the environmental and social risks of their development projects.

Wardell Armstrong presentations covered a range of topics including:

  • A review of EU legislation and IFC PS, relating these frameworks to each other and specific aspects within the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the context of ESIA techniques.
  • The importance of baseline studies within water resources management strategies and a review of the EU Water Framework Directive.
  • To highlight the business case for Sustainability, including in emerging economies where environmental and social risks have been conventionally overlooked.
