Wardell Armstrong was commissioned to investigate the hydraulic properties of the backfill material at a historical open cast coal mine to support future proposed dewatering activities associated with the sites development. Initially small scale hydraulic testing was completed in existing boreholes which identified strong anisotropy across the site.
A groundwater pump test was designed and supervised to provide further information on the potential inflows into future excavations at the site. The results of the pump test were analysed to hydraulic properties of the backfill. Predictions of dewatering requirements for future works are the site were made based on the testing results.
