Wardell Armstrong provided a multidisciplinary team comprising Air Quality, Noise, Ground Conditions, Cultural Heritage, Ecology and Soils for a new Motorway Services at M1 J45 Leeds Skelton Lake. Situated on a former opencast mining site, a detailed review of the ground conditions and construction methodology was necessary. Wardell Armstrong conducted three phases of site investigation to establish the presence and extent opencast backfill, any contamination, risks from shallow mining and geotechnical parameters. A hydrogeological investigation was also carried out to establish flow rates through the backfill material. The MSA is currently under construction with Wardell Armstrong continuing to assist with a full package of remediation works (including earthworks and stabilisation of historic shallow coal mining) to the required design and specification as approved by Extra MSA Group.
