In-House Core Logging Training

Members of our Ground Engineering team at our Head Office in Stoke-on-Trent recently attended a preliminary training course on core logging led by Technical Director, Richard Lowman. Topics included drilling techniques, site supervision, the effects of drilling on core quality, logging standards, Rock Quality Designation, core loss assessment and trouble-shooting issues.

A practical followed with our engineers and geologists tasked with logging cores of rock set up in an office environment. This included core recovery and RQD logging, and detailed logging in accordance with BS EN ISO 14689:2018 and BS 5930:2015+A1:2020. Of particular interest was the presence of worked and unworked seams of coal, and evidence to indicate that abandoned coal mine workings are present within the rock cores.

This was part of one of our on-going training programmes at Wardell Armstrong, which are ran in accordance with our people’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD). We are committed to helping our people achieve their ambitions and rewarding them not just on financial results but on how they help develop, grow and shape the business.
