GIS Day 2024 – Celebrating 25 Years!
Happy 25th GIS Day!
This year’s theme, as part of the 25th anniversary of the event, is ‘Mapping Minds, Shaping the World’, which highlights how geographic information system (GIS) technology has changed the way we perceive, navigate, and shape our world.
GIS software and applications are powerful tools in capturing, creating, and managing digital geospatial data. This helps users of GIS understand patters, relationships, and geographic content to make better-informed decisions, improve communication and work more efficiently.
At Wardell Armstrong, we deploy various GIS software and applications across our multi-disciplinary teams, including our Planning & Environment, Engineering, and Mining & Minerals services to help our teams and their clients review their data in order to come up with solutions. This has included the use of interactive online ‘web mapping’, the use of live dashboards monitoring real-time progress and updates and the deployment of site data capture technology through various mobile applications. All of this information can then be combined, viewed and interpreted for our assessments in core GIS software to enable effective decisions to be made and visually output to support our reports. This helps our teams and their clients understand information available to them relative to their project, shaping outcomes and solutions.
We continue to develop how we use GIS both internally as part of our own assessments and reporting, but also externally to our clients, leveraging various GIS technologies and applications to do so. This has and will continue to deliver efficiencies and effective ways of communicating data to make better informed decisions on our projects.
