This state-of-the-art digital process brings together research, data and designs from each part of your project to create a virtual space where a development can be refined, developed, tested and issues mitigated before building costs are incurred. This process provides clear opportunities for cost and risk reduction, whilst improving quality and deliverability by identifying conflicts and clashes at the design stage.

The real world isn’t built in 2 dimensions, so instead of traditional 2D drawings, this smart process allows easier understanding of the whole lifecycle of a project and how it interacts with its environment, and can prove essential when securing planning permissions, as it allows decision makers to assess the impacts of your development.

Being able to provide clients with interoperable and increasingly data rich service is now an industry standard and is a requirement of any project which entails the spending of public money; ranging from colleges to roads.

At Wardell Armstrong we use various software tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Tekla and GIS (ESRI and QGIS) to develop, create and accommodate this information rich model for each BIM project. We are also able to host, manage or input into a Common Data Environment (CDE).

It is intended that the benefits of BIM and the Digital Engineering process would be felt throughout the entire life cycle of a project, providing all the necessary information to operate, maintain and manage a scheme going forward.

The Government has stipulated that all public construction projects must be built using BIM. This mandate calls for the adoption of Level 2 BIM, where model information is shared within a Common Data Environment, within all parts of the design and build process.

There is a collective misunderstanding that BIM is 3D design. In fact, it is much more. BIM is a process for producing and managing all the information on a project from concept to construction to asset management. The output of this process is the Building Information Model, the digital description of every single aspect of the built asset.

Our team of specialists can carry out all aspects of Geographic Information (GI) management from capture to visualisation. To truly harness the power of GI, geometrical processing and geospatial analyses are executed to discover spatial relationships, detect patterns, and visualise data insights. Surface analysis of physical surfaces inform site finding and prioritisation projects whereas network and locational analysis ensures efficiency on large scale infrastructure projects. Data sources such as satellite imagery enable the team to perform spatio-temporal data analysis to review change over time.

We are highly experienced in the creation of visualisations of three-dimensional sub-surface models, including aspects of the surface infrastructure to allow for the clear representation of our client’s sites.

Three-dimensional models produced by our team can include; cut/fill models, material management plan designs, geological models and minerals models, along with quarry designs and underground and surface mining models to International Standards. The visualisations of these models can assist in planning applications and as an easy-to-understand visual for use when displaying schemes to members of the public as well as being able to be used to describe potential site issues and solutions.

Our experienced team covers a broad range of skills and knowledge and ensures delivery quality is achieved throughout our work.

Our team of specialists can carry out volumetric modelling for a wide variety of uses, from borrow pit design, cut and fill design to mineral resource estimation.  Client outputs can be provided in a number of guises from 2D drawings with volumetrics, Civil3D drawings, including surface and sub-surface information, or 3D block models which allow for material movement schedules to be determined for assisting in permitting, planning, material management plans and construction costs/schedules.

All works carried out by our team and outputs delivered are BIM Level 2 Compliant.
