Chesters Medows

Chesters Meadow Has Been Shortlisted for a 2019 North East Property Award

We are delighted to have been shortlisted for a 2019 North East Property Award in the ‘Residential Development of the Year’ category. The shortlisted development is known as Chesters Meadow in Humshaugh, in which we assisted Duchy Homes Ltd with a phase 1 planning application.

The Project Team comprised of Duchy Homes, Lichfields, POD, Wardell Armstrong, Arrowbuild, Edwards & Bower Ltd.

We were appointed to support a detailed planning application for 21 family homes in an area of high landscape value on the edge of Humshaugh. The site, on the southern edge of the village, lies close to the River Tyne, near Hadrian’s Wall and within the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site.

The commission required careful analysis of the site and its surroundings to identify potential environmental constraints including flood risk, heritage and landscape impacts. Integrating the site with the village and protecting green links were important considerations.

The scope of the study was agreed with Northumberland County Council who were particularly concerned with the proximity of Chesters Fort and the Roman Bridge Crossing. As part of an iterative process, a landscape strategy masterplan was prepared identifying open spaces, new planting to filter views to the development, landscape details for the streetscape and gardens with maintenance schedules.

The scheme was successfully granted planning permission in July 2016.  The sandstone used in the development, has been locally sourced from Camphill Quarry and Wardell Armstrong’s Minerals and Estates Team manage the lease of the Camphill Quarry on behalf of the landowner.

We will find out if we have been successful at the 2019 North East Property Awards on 23rd May 2019.
