Cardiff Arena & Atlantic Wharf, Butetown Masterplan Development Given the Green Light
We are pleased to see plans for the regeneration of land in Cardiff Bay given the green light at Planning Committee!
Wardell Armstrong provided Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) services, as the appointed EIA Coordinator, to accompany a hybrid planning application for the proposed development. The full element of the planning application includes a 17,000 capacity multi-use indoor arena and 182 bed hotel. The outline element comprises a mixed use masterplan including residential, hotel, employment, leisure and retail floorspace.
We also provided a number of technical assessments presented within the Environmental Statement covering Water Resources, Air Quality, Noise and Vibration, Townscape and Visual, Climate Change, and Materials and Waste.
The planning application was submitted to Cardiff Council in November 2021 on behalf of joint Applicant Robertson Property Limited and Cardiff Council, and received a resolution to grant permission at Planning Committee earlier this month.
The first phase of development, through the creation of the Arena Quarter, will provide the city with the opportunity to host large entertainment industry events, attracting visitors to Cardiff Bay and generating economic activity and creating job opportunities.
The masterplan outline element of the proposed development will be subject to future reserved matters application(s) with Cardiff Council’s resolution to grant permission of the hybrid application setting the principles and parameters for future development on the site.
