Zinc exploration in the North Pennines

Zinc exploration in the North Pennines

We manage the mineral interests of three severed mineral owners across 200kmĀ² of the Pennines - Allendale Estate, Church Commissioners, and Trustees for Roman Catholic Purposes. Their interests include minerals such as lead, zinc and copper, all historically worked across the area. When Minco were looking to carry out exploratory drilling to prove the existence of an economic zinc deposit, we were asked to represent the mineral owners during negotiations.

To help our three clients make an informed decision on whether to embark on the mining project and grant Minco the exploration and mining rights to, we advised them on the potential income and risks associated with metalliferous mining, and assessed Minco's financial and operational suitability as a tenant. Once our clients agreed to the proposals, we compiled an exploration licence to allow Minco to begin exploration, and compiled heads of terms for a lease option that would generate income for our clients while protecting them from environmental, financial and operational risk.

Once both parties were in agreement, we instructed and assisted solicitors in drawing up the legal documents, and audited the drilling sites to make sure that operations met environmental and health and safety standards.
