Why is Urban Design important to us?

Urban Design is about people and the places in which they go about their daily lives. Primarily it is about understanding, listening to and appreciating the concerns and aspirations of the users of a place, developing an awareness of the place itself (its strengths and weaknesses) and delivering informed, sustainable proposals for change which integrate with the day to day life of the place. It is a process that should be driven by  creativity and innovation tempered by common sense and a robust methodology. It is about ensuring equality of access to all those who use the places and spaces within our towns and cities.

Urban Designers come from a range of backgrounds, but the key thing we have in common is our facilitating and enabling role - the ability to bring together the skills of many professions and marry them with the energy and aspirations of local communities to successfully manage change in cities, towns and villages.
