Shallow Mine Workings

Shallow Mine Workings

Almost every region of the UK has in the past been subject to the working of sub surface minerals.  The largest proportion of workings are associated with coal but there also extensive workings associated with salt, limestone, chalk and metals.

Shallow mine workings and historic mine entries can present a hazard to existing or new development potentially adversely impacting the stability of surface structures and infrastructure.  They can also present a risk to public safety.

We have extensive experience, and are one of the UKs pre-eminent experts, in the investigation, evaluation and treatment of shallow mine workings and mine entries.  We hold comprehensive records of previous mining activity and are well versed in dealing with and negotiating with the Coal Authority and planning authorities.
