Pride Park Velodrome

Pride Park Velodrome

Work has started on Derby’s long-awaited velodrome and sports arena. The £28 million development is funded by Sport England’s Olympic and Paralympic legacy and by Derby City Council. Being built on a former landfill site at Pride Park, the development also includes a twelve court sports hall surrounded by a 250m indoor cycling track and a gym.

We were appointed by Bowmer and Kirkland to provide detailed landscape design. We carried out the external works design including detailed planting, and the hard landscape design of the velodrome facility. We also designed the circulation plan including access paths, steps and ramps.

The indoor track will be raised to allow easy access to the twelve court infield sports area. There will also be a cafe, a fitness gym, group exercise studios, a spinning studio, a 1.4km closed road circuit and a mountain bike skills area. Construction began at the end of November 2012, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
