Metallurgical Testwork Programmes

How do you select samples for a metallurgical testwork programme? The successful evaluation and development of an ore body calls for the integrated input of many disciplines - including geology, mining engineering, process engineering, environmental sciences, marketing and finance.

The work often starts during the exploration phase with extensive sampling programmes, primarily designed to evaluate the grades and tonnages of the mineralisation that’s present.  Such programmes are inevitably managed by geologists with an understanding of the mineralogy of the ore body, but probably only a limited knowledge of how the economic minerals might be recovered.

When carrying out a feasibility study, the deposit’s ore reserve grades and tonnages are quoted according to strict accounting procedures such as JORC or GKZ in the former CIS countries. But the methods for evaluating exactly what is recoverable from an ore body are not well defined. Our metallurgists provide expert advice on how to develop a test programme for a wide range of commodities and industrial minerals.
