Marr Windfarm

Wind farm developments create unique challenges in terms of foundations due to their size and siting within often highly exposed areas.  At Marr Windfarm, Doncaster, we worked as part the developer’s team, H J Banks, via a design, supply and construct contract, with Cheetham Hill Construction as the main civils contractor and REPower as the turbine supplier.

We were appointed to undertake the design of foundations and civil engineering infrastructure.  This included the turbine and met mast foundation designs, design of the roads and associated infrastructure, including horizontal and vertical alignment, design of the control building (foundations and superstructure) and design of the crane bases for the installation of the turbines.

Preliminary designs were undertaken to a tight schedule, within the tender period, to provide sufficient information to enable Cheetham Hill to submit an accurate but competitive (and ultimately successful) tender. Following contract award, detailed designs were completed (in the case of the turbine bases with the approval of the turbine supplier REPower), to permit the turbines to be installed and commissioned to a demanding programme.
