Ecology

Our ecologists have a wide and varied range of experience of terrestrial and aquatic habitats and are involved in a broad range of planning related work. The ecological surveys involve assessment of undisturbed semi-natural habitats, agricultural landscapes and a range of brownfield sites that have naturally regenerated. These widely differing habitats support diverse species. We are expert in classifying common and unusual habitats within an approved framework that is clear and understandable to ecologists and other disciplines.

  • phase 1 and 2 habitat surveys
  • vegetation classification
  • habitat evaluation & restoration
  • arboricultural surveys
  • conservation management plans
  • assessment & removal of Japanese knotweed

Wardell Armstrong International is a member of the Local Japanese Knotweed Forum.

We have particular expertise in flora and fauna translocation works. We are actively engaged in species translocation work under licence on several sites. Species include
  • great crested newts
  • lesser horseshoe bats
  • common lizards
  • white clawed crayfish and
  • water voles
  • Translocated plants include acid grassland, heath, wall bedstraw and sand sedge

Our ecologists have experience in the preparation of long term habitat management plans and associated monitoring programmes. We frequently prepare innovative mitigation strategies to accommodate both flora and fauna species.
