Iron Ore mines - Russia

A competent person's report on a detailed feasibility study was needed for the combined development of two iron ore mines in Russia. This included a review of a hydrological and hydrogeological conceptual site model, a dewatering model and a proposed river diversion.

We reviewed the available reports, tables, drawings and model outputs, identified key data gaps in the hydrogeological conceptual site model and recommended additional work - especially to update and refine an over-simplified groundwater model. We also reviewed the proposed river diversion and channel design. Our civil engineers made recommendations on material placement and composition, while our flood risk assessment team looked at the potential for upstream flooding.

Even though a change in the design of the proposed pit has now required additional investigation and re-modelling, our key recommendations at an early stage in the reporting process has saved the client from having to carry out additional water management work.
