Forticrete Tile Factory - Leighton Buzzard

The Forticrete Tile Factory was a major roofing tile production facility consisting of various sheds, offices, outbuildings and concrete yards, all of which were demolished to below ground level, with all foundations, drains and services removed.

Wardell Armstrong was responsible for the preparation of the demolition contract document and associated health and safety information, assisting in the selection of tenderers, the administration of the tender and contract award process, and supervision of the works.

Asbestos cement sheeting containing white asbestos was present on walls and roofs throughout the site, while both white and brown asbestos were identified on insulating wall boards and in pipe gaskets within the buildings.  All asbestos was removed by suitably licensed  contractors using approved techniques.

A buried fuel tank and surrounding contaminated soil were removed in a controlled manner.  Clean concrete and brick materials were processed by crushing to form a granular materials suitable for use in subsequent redevelopment of the site.
