Environmental Appraisal and Sustainability Appraisal for proposed Eco-town, examining ecology, hydrogeology, drainage, archaeology and landscape impact. A key issue was the potential for an aquifer linkage between the site and a number of SSSIs, to the north including Sawston Hall Meadows SSSI (1.2km from the site) a relic wet pastureland comprising spring fed peat, over chalk.

We undertook detailed consultations with both Natural England and the Environment Agency followed by the construction of a hydrogeological model. This model found that there was unlikely to be a hydrogeological linkage between the site and the SSSIs. However, it was proposed that the site could supply a clean piped water source through an on-site Biological Treatment Facility to help regulate water levels within Sawston Hall Meadows SSSI, which was adversely affected by dewatering from agriculture.
