Mann Island - Liverpool

We project managed and undertook a variety of archaeological and heritage assessments undertaken by third parties and undertook a detailed historic townscape analysis and assessment of the high profile mixed used development on Liverpool’s historic waterfront.  The development site situated within the heart of the Liverpool World Heritage Site and positioned immediately adjacent to the Three Graces; three highly graded listed buildings required extensive and complex analysis.

Through the application of historic characterisation, detailed site analysis and research it was demonstrated that the proposed application would not detract from the quality and character or affect its Outstanding Universal Value.

We were retained as heritage advisors for the construction programme, co-ordinating a complex archaeological excavation, which was the largest ever excavation in Liverpool and represents the largest ever study of an historic dock system in the world.  The excavations revealed an extensive archaeological landscape of dock side structures, docks and wharves and a comprehensive archaeological report has been produced detailing the discoveries.
