Ffynnon Oer Wind Farm

Ffynnon Oer Wind Farm

The design and construction of wind farms can be a both interesting and challenging due to their often remote and secluded location.  Ffynnon Oer Wind Farm is one such example; it comprises 16 wind turbines constructed on a hill top site at an elevation of over 400m between the Afan and Neath Valleys in South Wales. The site has been affected by shallow mine workings and there was also evidence of landslide activity.

We were appointed to assess the potential mining and landslip related hazards and to advise on foundation conditions and remedial requirements. We provided on-site support during construction of the foundations, and designed and supervised drilling and grouting works for one turbine location affected by shallow mine workings.

The wind farm construction was completed in 2006 and the turbines are now generating electricity which feeds into the national grid.
