Hydrogeology

Our hydrogeology and water resources expertise is used by clients in the UK and worldwide to address challenges relating to the protection, utilisation and restoration of water both above and below ground. Some of the areas in which we have particular experience are as follows:

  • Industrial process supplies and mine water supplies. Drilling and hydrogeological testing

  • Assessment of the identity and concentration of contaminants. Site characterisation. Pollution plume modelling, risk assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, waste disposal.

  • Aquifer characterisation by mapping and well tests. Evaluation of aquifers. Seepage control and design. Hydrochemical assessment.

  • Pumping test analysis, aquifer characterisation, groundwater resource evaluation, mine dewatering, wellfield design, stream aquifer interaction analysis.

  • Hydrological evaluation. Geophysical investigations, input to geotechnical design, dewatering design, water supply, hydrochemical evaluation and environmental control. Computer modelling

  • Baseline and scoping studies. Consultations. Specialist hydrological and hydrogeological investigations. Design of mitigation measures. Production of Environmental Statements to national and international standards

We have the capability to assist clients in exploration for groundwater resources, as well as evaluation and development. We have worked in a wide variety of hydrogeological environments, including hard-rock aquifers, fractured aquifers and unconsolidated deposits.

The Firm has valuable expertise in investigations of groundwater contamination at brownfield sites, including the assessment of organic, inorganic and microbiological contaminants. We are able to use the results of groundwater investigations in order to identify legal liabilities and provide advice on clean-up using active and passive treatment technology..

The Firm regularly prepares Contamination Risk Assessments to the Environment Agency on behalf of developers.
