Diverting a pipeline for West Coast main line improvements

Planned improvements to the West Coast main line in Staffordshire would increase capacity and reduce delays. Part of the Norton Bridge area improvements scheme, it was a nationally significant infrastructure project and a priority for Network Rail. But the proposed new track alignments meant the diversion of a high pressure fuel pipeline - and it had to be done to a tight deadline.

We provided EIA coordination, the delivery of an environmental statement and an application for a biodiversity action plan. Our work included environmental surveys as well as writing technical impact assessment chapters and a statement of community involvement. We also prepared a disturbance licence and exclusion works for great crested newts.
