Keighley Clean Energy Facility

Keighley Clean Energy Facility

The Halton Group commissioned Wardell Armstrong to prepare an Environmental Statement for a proposed facility at Keighley. The proposals, located within a vacant brownfield site, included a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) power plant which incorporated a 60m stack.

The impact of the stack on the setting of a number of designated heritage assets within the area was assessed within the Cultural Heritage chapter of the Environmental Statement.

At an early stage of the commission it was established that the stack may impact upon the setting of a Grade I Hall located 500m north of the site. In consultation with Historic England and the client, the location of the stack was re-sited within the development footprint so as to minimise adverse impacts and remove any objection from Historic England. The project was granted permission in 2014.
