Wardell Armstrong was commissioned by CALA Homes (East) to undertake consultancy services for the construction of three new five/six storey blocks on a 1.65ha brownfield site (previously the Royal Mail depot). The development consists of 179 residential units, commercial space and associated roads and drainage infrastructure.

Wardell Armstrong was commissioned by CALA Homes (East) to provide civil and structural consultant engineering services including:
• Provide planning support for all civil and structural elements.
• Design and detail earthworks including plot works information.
• Design and detailing of full drainage systems including attenuation tanks and gaining Scottish Water approval.
• Design and detail for full Road Construction Consent including an Approval in Principal for a retaining wall system.
• Design and detailing of piled foundations and RC ground beams.
• Superstructure design: first floor key element design and four-storey timber-framed construction with masonry and precast concrete staircores.
• Providing Certificate of Design (Building Structures) in accordance with the Structural Engineers’ Registration Scheme for Building Warrant approval.

Blocks B & C are complete and occupied. Block A is near completion and will be leased by The Port of Leith Housing Association for affordable housing. Selected as winner of the NHBC Pride in Job Quality Award 2017.
