Barr Killoch Energy Recovery Park

Barr Killoch Energy Recovery Park

Barr Environmental Ltd, one of Scotland’s leading waste management companies, is proposing to build and operate an energy recovery park in Ochiltree, East Ayrshire. It will have with the capability to process, recycle and reuse residual household waste which until now has been destined for landfill or export, to generate energy in the form of heat and electricity. The energy recovery park will incorporate a material recovery facility (MRF) which will generate refuse derived fuel (RDF) to be utilised within the energy recovery gasification facility.

WA was commissioned to project manage the pre-application and planning process. WA submitted a Scoping Opinion Request, and prepared the planning application which comprised; the Planning Application form, Planning Statement, Design and Access Statement and an Environmental Statement. A thorough and transparent public consultation exercise was carried out with a number of public exhibitions held in the local area together with bespoke presentations to interested groups and stakeholders. WA also worked closely with the architects to ensure that, where appropriate, the EIA informed the design progression.

Post-submission, WA prepared a comprehensive response to the objections that have been raised and will continue to provide the necessary planning support.

A decision is expected in early 2016.
